On a beautiful sunny day back in October, I met this lovely family for a relaxed outdoor photoshoot at Frensham Little Pond in Surrey. It’s such a wonderful location for family photography, especially in autumn when the light is soft and the surrounding landscape creates a warm, natural backdrop.
The session took place near Farnham, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect day. The sunshine filtered through the tall pine trees, and the calm water of the pond reflected the golden tones of the season.
This lovely family – mum, dad and their two little girls – were an absolute joy to photograph. The girls were full of energy and curiosity, exploring the sandy paths and pine forest while sharing plenty of giggles along the way. Those natural, playful moments are always my favourite to capture, as they show the real connection between families.
One of the things I love most about photographing at Frensham Little Pond is the variety of scenery within a short walking distance. The open sandy areas, the peaceful water, and the beautiful pine woodland all create different backdrops during a single session. It makes every shoot feel unique while still keeping the relaxed feel of being out in nature.
Outdoor family sessions like this are perfect for children because they have space to move, explore and simply be themselves. Rather than asking children to sit still for long periods, we can walk, play and let moments unfold naturally, which always leads to more genuine smiles and interactions.
It was such a pleasure spending the morning with this wonderful family and capturing a small snapshot of this stage in their lives. These are the kinds of sessions that remind me why I love family photography so much.
